3 Step Plan for a Spooky Backyard Movie (Socially Distanced, of course!)

Spooky season is here, and although it may look different this year, there are still lots of ways to emerge yourself in the season’s festivities! One of my favorite October activities is Halloween movie marathons! So, why not bring them outside, invite a few friends over, and throw a spooky backyard movie night! Most importantly, this can be done while staying socially distanced!

Step 1. Set Up Your Backyard Theater

To set up your backyard theater, I would suggest using a projector and some bedsheets. Projectors can be bought off Amazon or Walmart (which has some more affordable options). If you do not want to use a projector, you can also bring a TV outdoors. For seating, you can bring the beach chairs back out from just a couple of months ago, or any sort of lawn chairs will do!

Step 2. Gather Some Food and Drinks

Now, everyone knows a movie night is not complete without snacks! Staying safe means, no sharing, but that does not need to make the snacks any less fun. Here are my personal favorites:

Popcorn

This one seems like a given, but did you know you could easily spice up this movie time classic? Kernel Season’s popcorn seasoning comes in various flavors from garlic parmesan to caramel corn! It is available for sale on Amazon. Guests can choose the flavors for their own personal popcorn that will be good, no one will want to share anyway!

Tuck-ins

Tuck-ins are Inside-Out S’mores on sticks – with the graham cracker and chocolate INSIDE the marshmallow! These delicious treats can easily be roasted over a campfire and are bound to take your backyard movie night to the next level! These treats are perfect for socially distancing around the campfire sharing ghost stories. Use code SMORE15 for 15% off!

Drinks

I would suggest having both cold and hot options. Keeping in theme with the season, hot apple cider or cinnamon-flavored drinks could be super cozy additions to your selection. There are plenty of fall drink recipes to be discovered online, as well as cider mixes on Amazon.

Step 3. Make it Cozy and Decorate

Just because movie night is being moved outside, does not mean it needs to be any less cozy. Blankets and pillows are a great way to stay warm and comfortable, but to stay safe, invite your guests to bring their own favorites!

Fairy Lights

This inexpensive, but adorable addition could really set the perfect scene for movie night, as well as helping with lighting. For a spooky kick, there are many Halloween themed string lights available on Amazon.

Halloween Decorations

Adding black and orange tinsel, spider garlands, and pumpkins are just some of the endless Halloween themed décor options out there. Target has a great selection of affordable, outdoor Halloween decorations, including fun inflatables perfect for socially distanced photos!
